Preston is a Knoxville native. Though he's traveled a bit over the years, he has always gravitated back to the hills and mountains of East Tennessee. This landscape has always conveyed to him an element of deep beauty and grace. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Geography degree in 2004. He received his Certified Arborist credential in 2009. He has spent several years in the tree care world, including four years as an arborist and project manager for the City of Chattanooga, Tennessee. His position in Chattanooga involved overseeing Project Take Root with the goal of doubling the downtown tree canopy by planting about 2000 trees. Once Take Root’s goal was met, Preston went on to help manage Chattanooga’s urban forest with the City's Urban Forestry Department. Beyond his work operating Ironwood Tree Care, he spends plenty of time with his wife and two young kids doing whatever the kids are currently into- which is a lot! Preston and his wife also find that good meals with good friends are really hard to beat. If he can find the time, he hopes to rekindle an old hobby- beekeeping.

"When great trees fall,
rocks on distant hills shudder,
lions hunker down
in tall grasses,
and even elephants
lumber after safety."
- Maya Angelou

"The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity... and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself.”
- William Blake

“A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people. ”
- Franklin D. Roosevelt
